A study to assess the knowledge and attitude towards mental illness among III year B.Sc and II year GNM nursing students of Kamdar College of Nursing, Rajkot

Abstract
Background: College or institution is a place for students to be put together to gain the experience to being around large number of their peers and discovering the way to behave properly. That cannot be taught from book, that cannot be taught one or one interaction, that can only be taught by dropping student into the middle of the situation, giving some guidance and hoping he or she gets it, but positive mental health is disturb when student is enter in BSC third year and GNM second year.
Objective:  To assess the knowledge & attitude of students towards mental illness.
Method: In this study quantitative comparative design. Total 60 samples were selected with non-probability sampling technique in that convenient sampling method used to select the sample. The tools used for gathering necessary data were structured knowledge questionnaires and Likert’s attitude scale.
Results: The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted in the light of objectives using descriptive and inferential statistical in terms of mean, mean percentage, standard deviation, chi square. The statistical data show that, teaching personal (74.5%) have more knowledge than the non-teaching personal (32.07%) and attitude score teaching personal (78.76) & non-teaching personal.
Conclusion: Thus, findings of present study reveals that knowledge score of teaching was higher as compared to non-teaching regarding mental illness. It reveals that teaching personal attitude score higher than non-teaching personal. It was found that there was no impact of demographic variables on knowledge score of teaching and non-teaching personal.
