Informational booklet on drug abuse and its harmful effect on health among adolescents

Abstract
Quasi- experimental one-group pre-test post-test research design was
adopted and the study was conducted among adolescents in selected higher
secondary school of Mahisagar District, Gujarat. 60 adolescents were selected
by using Probability simple random sampling method. Pre-test level of knowledge
of adolescents of regarding drug abuse and its harmful effects on health were
assessed. Informational Booklet was given for 30 minutes regarding drug abuse
and its harmful effects on health. After 7 days post-test was conducted. The
same questionnaire was used to assess the posttest knowledge of adolescents.
The data gathered was analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistical
method and interpretations were made based on the objectives of the study. The
major findings of the study the mean knowledge pre-test score was 11.97 and
mean knowledge post-test score is 19.77 regarding Drug Abuse and its Harmful
Effects on Health. The mean post-test knowledge score was significantly higher
than the mean pre-test knowledge score with the mean difference of 7.79 and
calculated ‘t’ value (t= 16.77) was greater than tabulated ‘t’ value (t= 2.00)
which was statistically proved at 0.05 level of significance. Therefore, the
null hypothesis H01 was rejected and research hypothesis H1 was accepted and it
revealed that the Informational Booklet was effective in increasing knowledge
among adolescents of higher secondary school. The study findings show that
There was no significant association between the age of student, sex, religion,
education of father, occupation of father, education of mother, occupation of
mother, income of family member, previous source of information regarding Drug
Abuse with the pre- test score of the adolescents of higher secondary school.
